What Your Child is Learning
This Sunday, May 10,
your children will learn that God gives people different gifts for serving him. We read in I Corinthians 12:4-17 that Paul taught about Spiritual Gifts. Think of something that your children like to do or excel at. Encourage your children to spend some time every day developing this gift and using it for good. Discuss ways they can use this gift for God. For example, a child who enjoys cooking could bake cookies for an older friend who can't get around very well. A child who is a very good artist could make pictures with a Christian message and share them with a non-Christian friend or acquaintance.

Missions Calendar
We are excited about a wonderful opportunity for our children to serve in May. Mission Sunday for our church family will be June 1st and we want our children to have a way to serve and participate. That Sunday we will be talking about the different missions that Fairfax sponsors. One of these is the Dominican Republic and Haiti. We would like our children to spend the month of May concentrating on how fortunate we are and how we can help those less fortunate in the DR and Haiti. We want our children to have a better understanding of the places that we sponsor as a church family and have a better understanding of their blessings.
Every child will be given a can on Sunday, May 4th (if your child didn't get a can, check with Lisa and Ellyn in the Children's Ministry area).. Each day describes something about world hunger and the children’s daily lives and helps your children focus on giving and helping. They may give more than the date suggests if they would like. On Sunday, June 1st, our children will be asked to bring their cans forward to the stage so all can see that they play an essential role in our missions also.
If you have any questions, please contact us. Thank you so much for helping your children to play a significant role in our church family. Click here for the calendar.

- Clothes/Toy Swap. All you have to do is take your children's clothes and toys in good condition to the swap location and drop the items off. As soon we have enough items worthy of "shopping", we will let you know of dates in which you can stop by to select clothes and toys for your family. This is only a swap. There is no money involved. A good opportunity to clean out your things that you don't need or use anymore. This is a good way to change out your children's clothes and toys--all for FREE! Contact Lisa or Ellyn for details.

Key Fob Info
- In order to stream line the process of checking in your children with our new electronic check in system, we have key fobs with the Children's ministry logo on it. We are working to ensure that EVERY family in Children's ministry gets one. We kindly ask that when you do receive yours, please put it on your key ring. Every family assigned a key fob will get 3 of them (2 key fobs for your key ring, and one credit card looking card). These are just like your cards that you use at Giant and other stores. If you are a volunteer with children, you can check in this way and get your name tag. If you don't have children in Children's Ministry then you still need to go to a computer kiosk in the Children's ministry lobby and check in to get a name tag. We want all 4th-6th graders to now check in using a key fob. They still don't need a parent to check in and will not get a name tag but this is how we take attendance for Bible Class, Puppets, Improv team, etc.
- If you have your key fob, STOP what you are doing now and put your key fob on your key chain!!! The former tag system had assigned every child a number. If your child needed you while you were in the worship center, we would flash that number up on the LCD screens located up front on either side of the stage. Your child still has a number we can flash! It is the last 3 digits of your Key Fob number. So when you see a number flash, please check to make sure it isn't your child's by looking at your key fob. IF it is your child, please respond either to the Nursery desk or the Children's Ministry registration desk. If you know your child might need you during the course of the morning--please take a pager! That way we can find you quickly!
Key Fob FAQs
- If I need a pager what do I do? If you need a pager, please get a pager first and then check in. When you check-in, you can add the pager number. This way, the pager number can be printed on your child's tag.
- If I don't take a pager, how will you notify me if my child needs me? Everyone who has a key fob has a number on the back by the barcode. IF you are in the worship center, we will flash the last 3 digits of your barcode for you to come. If you think your child might need you that morning for whatever reason, please take a pager and we can page you while you are in Bible class. This way, Lisa and Ellyn don't have to open every classroom door to try and find you. We don't mind doing that but it is disruptive to the adult Bible classes.
- Why do I sometimes get 2 name tags and sometimes get one? You will get 2 name tags if you allow your child to come to both worship and Bible class of Children's ministry. Your child can wear both or one. You will also get a parent "claim check". This is for the safety of your child. If you only choose to come to one part of a Sunday then you will only get one child's tag and one parent "claim check". Should you drop the "claim check", it doesn't have your child's name and grade on their, if someone should pick it up. They can't claim a child whose name they don't know! This means, Mom and Dad, that you will have to tell the Guardian Angel the name of your child and their grade/age level. We are trying to keep to our vision of creating a safe and friendly children's ministry.

Child Illness Policy
Please make sure that your children are not brought to Bible class if they are sick. We love them and want them in Bible class every Sunday, but we don’t want to spread germs. Our illness policy has been set up to keep our nursery and Bible classes as safe, happy and germ free as possible. If your children exhibit any of the following symptoms for 24 hours prior to Sunday morning or Wednesday night, please keep them at home.
- Fever greater than 100 degrees
- Yellow or green runny nose
- Questionable rashes
- Excessive coughing
- Diarrhea
- Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
- Any communicable disease.
If you child is being treated with antibiotics, he/she should be in the medications at least 24 hours prior to coming to nursery or Bible class. Please use your best judgment for the comfort of your own child as well as the safety of others. |
