God's Heart to This Community

World Bible School

We're always looking for people interested in helping with a world-wide Bible correspondence course.

World Bible School (WBS) is a program by which you may share the Gospel of Jesus with a student who has specifically expressed an interest in studying God's Word via a correspondence course. Hence, WBS takes a pen pal approach to sharing the Gospel: you, as the teacher, send a Bible lesson through the mail to an individual who completes the lesson and returns it to you for grading; you grade the lesson and return it along with the next lesson in sequence for the student to complete; this process is continued until all lessons have been completed in turn. Through the lessons, the student learns of God's plan of salvation through Jesus Christ directly from God's Word, the Bible, and is given an opportunity to commit his/her life to Jesus and become an active part of the Lord's Church in his/her community.

Students from a host of foreign countries are waiting right now for a teacher to be assigned to them so that they may be taught God's Word. All materials for the course have already been prepared and are available for immediate use. The correspondence course is provided free of charge to the students and no cost is incurred by the teachers other than the time spent in corresponding with students and in praying for them. Please consider serving as a WBS teacher.

It is very easy to be a WBS teacher. The Fairfax Church of Christ Missions Team provides all the necessary materials for the teacher, including lesson pamphlets, mailing envelopes, and grading keys. The Missions Team also takes care of the postage and handling. Teachers incur no costs for participating in WBS.

The only qualification required of a WBS teacher is the desire to share Jesus with those who have already expressed an interest in studying God's Word. A teacher can devote whatever time he/she feels is manageable. There is no pressure to take on more students than the teacher wants to handle, there are no regular meetings, and no trips to the post office are required. Each teacher works in a pen pal fashion with as many students as desired.

To get started as a WBS teacher:

The Student ID code is a unique number which you assign to each of your students. It is not necessary but it is a good idea. The first time you mail lesson materials to a student, you should assign a unique ID to the student which will be used in every subsequent correspondence. You should keep a record of the student's name, address and assigned ID for yourself. Then, if the student returns completed lesson materials to you but forgets to supply his/her name and address (it does happen), you will be able to determine who the student is from the ID.

The Study Helper ID code is a fixed code which you use to identify your affiliation with the Fairfax Church of Christ. As long as this ID code is visible somewhere on material returned by a student to a WBS Post Box, the WBS can determine that the material should be sent to the Fairfax Church of Christ. The ID code which has been assigned to the Fairfax Church of Christ ID code is VA-007. You should use VA-007 as your Study Helper ID code.

  • What if a student sends me the names of several friends who also want to study?

When you get a returned lesson from a student, the student may have included the names and addresses of several of their own friends who are interested in a study of their own. If you can handle the additional names, great! But if not, give the names and addresses to the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Do NOT let the new names go unnoticed; this is not in the best interest of the students who want to learn God's Word.

  • How do I send a Bible to a student?

If a student requests a Bible, by all means send one. Just follow the simple Mailing Instructions..

  • What do I do if a student decides he/she wants to become a Christian?

After the fourth or fifth lesson, the student has learned enough of the gospel message to understand God's call to repentance and obedience to Christ. In your correspondence, you should encourage the student to make a commitment to Christ. If he/she expresses the desire to be baptized and to become a disciple of Jesus, you may contact a Christian in the area in which the student lives to help with follow-up work. The WBS has furnished us with points of contact in various countries. Please contact the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
