Meeting at the Building? RESERVE YOUR ROOM!

So many people like to just "pop-in" to have a quick meeting at our building or have a group get-together. Please, please, please call the church office to schedule any meeting - however brief it may be - that you would like to have in our building. We try desperately to accommodate, but want to make sure the room you come to occupy has not already been booked for another group.

Building Security

With our new security system, usually only one door will be unlocked if there is only one activity in the building. Please check another door if the one you are at is not open. Check the light in the small box between the doors; IF IT IS RED – THE DOOR IS LOCKED. Please do not pull and pull to make the security system determine a break-in. The police will be notified. Thanks so much for your cooperation and respect of the new system.

Elder Training Workshop

The purpose of the Elder Training Workshop is simply to understand how elders can function successfully in a larger church. There is absolutely no more important role in the church than that of elder. And yet, we often thrust men into this position simply because they know how to run a business. We will spend some time up front looking at things like the FXCC governance model, answering questions about the selection process, and generally trying to ensure we are on the same page about what the role of an elder is at FXCC. Then we will move quickly into working on the skills needed to do the pastoral care and teaching required of our elders. We will generally use small group facilitated discussion during most of our time together.

If you would like to see a man become an elder at FXCC, please encourage them to sign up for this workshop. This is the only nomination method we are using. Men who desire to become elders at FXCC will be required to attend at least three of the sessions and make up any missed sessions prior to being considered as a candidate. Please make arrangements to make up sessions prior to missing a session.

The Elder Training Workshop consists of four sessions and is open to everyone regardless of age or membership status. Everyone who attends will be encouraged to actively participate. However, each of the sessions will build on the previous one and every attempt should be made to attend them all if you would like to attend any of them. We’ll be using the book Like a Shepherd Lead Us as a resource for the workshop. Each person will need their own copy of the book. So, a copy of the book will be reserved for you in the church office once you’ve registered for the workshop. The cost of the workshop will be $30 per person (scholarships are available). Here’s the schedule:

Session 1 - Sunday January 10th, from 1:00  to 4:00 pm - Foundations: (reading assignment, chapters 1-4)

  • Biblical qualifications of an elder, the FXCC elder philosophy, the roles and responsibilities of the FXCC elders, the ministry coordination team, staff, and ministry leaders.
  • Spirituality for the Busy, Frantic & Overwhelmed
  • The Care of Souls: Pastoral Prayer
  • The Heart of the Shepherd
  • Pastoral Care for the sick

Session 2 - Saturday January 16th, from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (lunch included) – Conflict: (reading assignment, chapter 6)

  • Dr. Charles Siburt, Vice President for Church Relations at Abilene Christian University, will lead us through a seminar on Managing Conflict in Churches.
  • You can read Dr. Siburt’s biographical information here.

Session 3 – Sunday January 17th, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm – Pastoral Care: Dr. Siburt will continue our discussion covering pastoral care for families in crises.

Session 4 – Sunday January 24th, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm – Standing at the Crossroad: (reading assignment, chapters 5 & 7)

  • Biblical discernments
  • Setting direction and vision for the church

There will be additional readings and practical exercises for homework between the sessions. Please pray and fast with me for our leaders and future leaders. May God clearly select and confirm his chosen instruments for this next chapter at FXCC.

By His grace,
Geoffrey
