The purpose of the Elder Training Workshop is simply to understand how elders can function successfully in a larger church. There is absolutely no more important role in the church than that of elder. And yet, we often thrust men into this position simply because they know how to run a business. We will spend some time up front looking at things like the FXCC governance model, answering questions about the selection process, and generally trying to ensure we are on the same page about what the role of an elder is at FXCC. Then we will move quickly into working on the skills needed to do the pastoral care and teaching required of our elders. We will generally use small group facilitated discussion during most of our time together.
If you would like to see a man become an elder at FXCC, please encourage them to sign up for this workshop. This is the only nomination method we are using. Men who desire to become elders at FXCC will be required to attend at least three of the sessions and make up any missed sessions prior to being considered as a candidate. Please make arrangements to make up sessions prior to missing a session.
The Elder Training Workshop consists of four sessions and is open to everyone regardless of age or membership status. Everyone who attends will be encouraged to actively participate. However, each of the sessions will build on the previous one and every attempt should be made to attend them all if you would like to attend any of them. We’ll be using the book Like a Shepherd Lead Us as a resource for the workshop. Each person will need their own copy of the book. So, a copy of the book will be reserved for you in the church office once you’ve registered for the workshop. The cost of the workshop will be $30 per person (scholarships are available). Here’s the schedule:
