Our Mission

The Fairfax Church of Christ Divorce Recovery Support Groups meet for approximately 14-16 weeks depending upon holidays and school schedules (we do not meet on federal holidays or Fairfax county school closure days).
The 14-16 week period is described below:

Orientation (Coping):
The first several weeks of the program are intended as a starting place for participants to become comfortable with their group. During this period, meetings are not governed by any specific format. They are intended to be free and open discussions which enable group members to get to know each other and the facilitators with whom they will go through the entire program. During this Orientation period, new members may be added to the group.

Rebuilding I (Understanding/Healing):
Rebuilding I is the next five to six weeks of the program. The group is “closed” to new members, and participants follow a book by Dr. Bruce Fisher, Rebuilding: When Your Relationship Ends. Each session is structured to follow specific chapters of the book and to generate group discussions based upon the various chapter topics which are intended to promote understanding and begin the healing process. Because these topics cover many deep emotional issues, this phase is usually the most difficult time for participants. But, it also leads to a significant level of bonding among the support group members; and, in many instances becomes the basis for long and meaningful friendships.

Rebuilding II (Growing):
Rebuilding II is the final five to six weeks of the program. Again, sessions are structured to cover specific chapters to provide the necessary perspectives and tools to explore self awareness and growth and to develop a positive outlook for the future.
