Guest Speaker - Cathy Williams
Cathy Williams is a member
of the Southern
Hills Church of Christ in Buda, Texas, and also works with
the Austin Deaf
Church of Christ. She has been
on mission
trips to Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Albania, and Australia working
with
interpreters, deaf adults and children.
Cathy became a Christian in June of 1966. She has been interpreting
in the Church of Christ formally since she was 11 years old.
She is the daughter of Lloyd and the late Barbara Williams.
Cathy has 2 daughters Aimee and Jennifer, and 3 grandchildren
Caitlin, Bryona and Sean Paul.
Cathy has coordinated interpreters for several churches and
has presented numerous times at the Abilene Christian University
annual Lectureship, the National Workshop for Deaf Workers
in the Churches of Christ, and various congregations and workshops
around the world.
Cathy
holds the Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) Level
V Interpreter Certification, Masters Certification, and Court
Interpreter Certification. At the request of the Ghanaian government,
Cathy assisted in the establishment of a certification program
for the Interpreters in the country of Ghana, Africa, and has
provided Interpreter and Sign Language training in Kenya, Uganda,
Ghana, and Albania.
Currently she is the Director of the Interpreting
Services Department at the Texas School for the Deaf and
also co-coordinates Communication Skills Workshops for
Educational Interpreters, ASL Teachers, Deaf Education Teachers,
and parents of deaf children. |
