We are only attemping to list congregations of the Churches of Christ which have Deaf ministries.
This information was collected by the Birmingham Bible School for the Deaf (BBSD) prior to the 1996 workshop held at the Roebuck Parkway congregation in Birmingham, AL. The information has been published in a that BBSD had plans to periodically update. There is no doubt that some of the information is out of date (i.e. some was drawn from older publications listing all the Churches of Christ). We are sure there are congregations with deaf ministries that we have not yet heard about.
For the purposes of this of this list, a deaf ministry is considered to exist if there is someone in the congregation capable and willing to interpret for the deaf, or if there is a person functioning as a deaf minister. Thus it is not necessary that a congregation have any deaf members or attendees at any particular moment in time, just that they have willing and capable interpreters or ministers dedicated to the deaf ministry.
To our knowledge the following 14 states have no congregations of the churches of Christ with any form of a deaf ministry.

This list of foreign Deaf churches and mission efforts among the churches of Christ is far from complete. We know that deaf people have been contacted in former Iron Curtain countries through mission efforts from the United States, but we do not have any details at this time about specific cities nor whether any of the works are thought to be self sustaining. Most of these works are quite small and weak and may cease to exist once the missionaries have left.

There are two schools among the churches of Christ in the United States that specialize in training deaf and/or hearing people to work in the deaf ministry.
We know of only one publication among the churches of Christ that is by and for the Deaf (there may be some others, but we don't have any information about them).
The publication is the "Light for the Deaf", which is edited by Billy Leavell. Billy is the minister for the Deaf at the White Station church of Christ, 1106 Colonial Road, Memphis, TN.
Please send comments and suggestions to David Hinckley.
As noted above, this information is not complete. Deaf ministries tend to be small, are therefore easily overlooked, and have a habit of coming and going. As we receive new information, the pages will be updated.
