  • Capital Forum 2014 has finished

We are excited to announce our Capital Forum on Spiritual Formation and Discipleship for 2014! The dates are set for March 7-9, 2014. Our theme for this year’s forum is “Being Renewed and Formed into Christ’s Image in a Fallen World (Gal. 4:19, Romans 12:2, Phil. 3:7-10).” We are inviting you and anyone in a church leadership role to our 2nd Capital Forum on Spiritual Formation and Discipleship.

You might be asking, “What is the Capital Forum?” First, notice the spelling and logo. Most would assume we would spell Capital with and “O,” not and “A.” But this is a play on words as Capital with and “A” and used as an adjective denotes someone who is “chief in importance or influence.” In our case, that is Christ as you notice the cross at the top of the Capitol building. Our desire is to keep Christ as our head in all things.

The forum is, therefore, designed to help ALL church members and leadership understand how spiritual formation and discipleship flows through everything we do as God’s children and the church of Christ. Our goal is to help participants understand how important it is to be intentional with our efforts toward spiritual growth and discipleship in the church and outside its walls. At the forum, participants will gain a holistic perspective on spiritual formation and discipleship for the church as Rich Little encourages and motivates us in this area. Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in special forum tracks concerning several areas of church ministry. The areas of special interest this year are:

  • “Unity in Grace” – Solving Differences in the Church (Randy Willingham – Harding University)
  • "Seek, Bring Back, Bind Up, and Strengthen” – The Role of Elders in Spiritual Formation & Discipleship (Carson Reed – Abilene Christian University & ElderLink)
  • "Teaching Them to Obey” – Teaching & Small Groups (Houston Heflin – Abilene Christian University)
  • "Trained in the Fear of God” – Family Ministry (Children, Students, Families) (Daniel Stockstill – Harding University)
  • "House of Prayer” – Becoming a People of Prayer (Reg Cox – Lakewood Church of Christ)
  • "Carrying Your Cross” – Congregational Spiritual Formation & Discipleship (Phil McKinney II – Fairfax Church of Christ & Harding University and School of Theology)
  •  "Living His Image: Reaching Out Like Jesus" – Missions/Outreach (James Nored – Fairfax Church of Christ) {C}{C}{C}{C}

Food, transportation, and housing will be up to each individual or group. However, we can and will provide information for surrounding hotels and restaurants (there are many). If you need any additional information concerning the Capital Forum, please do not hesitate to contact Phil McKinney at or by contacting our church office at 703-631-2100.
